“Mental health can appear in so many different ways. Highlighting different situations/feelings can really allow someone to connect or feel “normal”.
My Own Experience
7 years ago when I first became a mom I had no idea how hard it would be to transition from teenager to mom and life smacked me in the face when I began to face my own experiences with postpartum depression & anxiety. For years I was ashamed to admit my reality to anyone but my husband because as a mother we are often told to be strong, to hold our heads up or pray about it.
However, after having my second child and losing two cousins and two grandmothers in a matter of 4 years postpartum depression turned into something more, more scary, more real and my only options were to seek medical attention. Every day is a battle to choose happiness over and over and some days I can see myself slipping but I remember why I am here and keep on pushing. I am happy to say that after 2 years weekly therapy and medication that I’ve never felt better in life and while sometimes I have down moments I hope to never be where I’ve been before. That is why I wanted to use my platform to bring awareness to moms who have also suffered, and or are suffering now in hopes that these mental health mom stores can help to uplift and enlighten someone who may be in the midst of it right now.
This series is an opportunity for moms to share their stories of mental health struggles, triumphs & testimonies! The goal is to bring awareness to the many issues moms face silently and sometimes out loud. By sharing your story you can help another person, imagine at the time of your story’s release another mom who may be suffering could be reading in search of hope and recovery.
How to Submit & Requirements:
- Use the form below to answer a few questions in order for your story to be considered in the series and don’t worry you’ll have the option to post anonymously.
- All stories must be 300 words +
- You can but are not required to include photos (max 2)
- Stories will be going up on the blog twice a week beginning Friday, June 15, 2018, so there will be plenty of opportunities to share and hopefully help another mom!
