When I first got started I made a lot of mistakes and one of them was paying for WordPress.com and not researching blogging enough to know that this was a bad idea. There were many lessons to be learned, tears shed and money spent that I won’t ever see again but I learned my lessons which you can read about here and now you can learn and not make the same mistakes.
I’ve put together this comprehensive post about launching a blog in 2018 – with 5 steps on getting started! Or join my “Get Busy Blogging” Facebook group to get connected to other bloggers new and old for tips and tricks and the best insight!
I choose SiteGround as my host after days of research and came to the conclusion that this was best for me for various reasons.
The load times are fast
Safety & Security
As a beginner with little to no knowledge about coding, web development, themes or what I was getting myself into I wanted to make sure whatever host I chose had great support and SiteGround does not disappoint. I have in my email about 10 chats from the SiteGround support center within my first 2 days of signing up! I had hundreds of questions, I ran into problems and every step of the way I felt the support of the SiteGround team.
So let’s get started!
Step 1. Choose your hosting plan
SiteGround has three plans and one can sign for any of them with a great discount through your affiliate link.
- The StartUp plan is perfect for people with one website that are starting now
- The GrowBig plan is a great value for money offer, including the option for multiple websites and the SuperCacher that greatly improves a WordPress website speed (this is what I have and it offers a great value)
- The GoGeek plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like staging and GIT integration
Step 2. Choosing Domain
Clients can choose to buy a new domain, or sign up with an existing domain. For those of you who already started on another platform and but want to switch without losing all your content SitGroung offers free website transfer, which is included for GrowBig and GoGeek plans.
Step 3. Review and Complete
Unlike many other hosting providers SiteGround’s advertised discount applies to any of the initial periods chosen during the sign-up process. Being able to get the low price for the one year period is a fact that increases conversions greatly in comparison to other providers where the lowest monthly price applies only for the longest period.
YAY! Now you’ve purchased your domain, and your hosting plan – the next step is getting to your Cpanel and installing WordPress!
Step 4: Install WordPress
* You can easily have the support team do this for you, but it’s not hard!
After you have registered and received your confirmation email with sign-in information and important details you can sign back into the host to begin your set-up.
For this step, you’ll need to navigate to your Cpanel
Once in your panel go into the section called AutoInstallers and click on WordPress.
Click on the blue Install Button
Fill in your details and choose your domain from the drop-down menu
Choose an easy to remember admin username and password
Yay! You’re done – You’re officially set up with a SiteGround host and WordPress platform.
You can use SiteGround to navigate to your WordPress dashboard or you can simply go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin and sign in with your credentials.
