Overcoming Obstacles & Staying the Course

Your obstacles can either become your roadblocks & dead ends or you can make them hurdles and fences to jump over and push through in order to achieve more.

For a while, I’ve suffered from anxiety and off and on depression which is often caused by situations that happen around, moments of chaos and the like. So as with millions of women and mothers like me, there are good weeks and bad weeks. Staying positive can sometimes be hard to do for a busy woman like me with a family, business and always trying to find time for myself.

If you’re following me on Instagram and watch my IG stories than you already know that I’ve been fighting obstacle after obstacle. But honey, I am working through it and learning lessons along the way.

Overcoming Obstacles & Staying the Course

I really believe in the power and mood of the mind having the ability to affect how you react to situations. I have recently decided to go into my Monday with a positive mindset. I wanted to see how my ability to change my mind about the negative things around me would affect my mood.

Utilizing Affirmations

On a Sunday evening, I decided to take over my home office and use my own self-care affirmations to write down and hang up on post-its.

I felt like if I surrounded myself with positive words that I could read easily throughout the day while sitting on the computer I would be able to channel it. 

So I took some of my favorite ones and placed them all around.

I’ve always known the power of affirmations in being a strong contributor to having a positive mindset that I knew this would help me.

After I put them up I put them in my Instagram Stories and received a great reaction to the affirmations and was even given the recommendation to mix it up.

I’ll soon be adding questions I have in my mind that I want to be answered for the week and journaling ideas. These are all great ideas on using affirmations to change your mindset.

Is She A Wreck?

WRECK has meaning to me beyond what you may think. When I started She’s A Wreck my vision was to blog about my honest motherhood experiences. But as I began to think about my personal journey I wanted to make sure to share how I’ve overcome, what’s helping me and how you to can make small changes in your own life.

How to Overcome

It seems some days that from the moment I wake up there is an obstacle in the way. For some, what may be small can be the biggest deal on others.

It what we choose to do with obstacles that sets apart the difference in the outcomes.

After experiencing what always seems to be a test in front of me to make me either give up, get angry or lose control. I’ve decided that all obstacles in your life can either have two paths.

Dead Ends & Hurdles

You can choose to let each obstacle you face become a dead end or you can let it become a hurdle for you to jump over and push through. The obstacles that you let stop you, ruin your whole day or make you change course are the ones you’ve let become a dead end roadblock. I’ve found that when one appears that finally makes me want to throw in the towel, I walk away from what I’m doing to give my mind a reset. I step back and say and say what about this can I change, why am I letting this stop me?

The obstacle that you face and decide to take head-on, move forward from and grow are your hurdles. A hurdle is easily jumped over, it’s easily pushed down and not much can stop you from getting through it. You want to let all the obstacles in your way become these because it’s in these testing moments that you can see the true gem of a positive mindset.

Why It’s Important to Have a Positive MindSet

Recently when faced with an obstacle that would generally take down my entire day, I’m using the mantra and affirmation, “today I will NOT stress over things I cannot control”. 

I really believe in the power and mood of the mind having the ability to affect how you react in situations. And because I have chosen to not let each obstacle become a roadblock, I’ve turned the energy into something positive each time.

On one particularly difficult day, I spun all the negative energy surrounding me with a positive mindset in order to achieve something I didn’t think I could. I forced myself to go after a goal that I had never even had the bravery to write down out of pure fear.

However, I was able to knock down my goal and I felt so proud that all the energy that I was putting into jumping my hurdles and creating a positive mindset worked. As so many obstacles stood and stand in my way I am proud to be at a place in my life where I am fucking pushing through!

    Morning affirmations are like the equivalent to a morning coffee, the day is just 10x better after you have it. I definitely agree that mindset is everything! Obstacles can be a catalyst that propel you into better things OR you can give up and be stuck.

    This is a great resource for anyone going through obstacles in their lives… most of us are. I agree that it’s so important to have daily affirmations and a positive mindset. Thank you for putting together a list of books to read that support a positive mindset.

    I love this idea! I’ve heard so much about the power of positive affirmations and I even have my daughter recite some every night- but I need to use them myself. Thanks for the great idea

    I totally agree that mindset is everything. It is really important to focus on the positive things instead of the negative, however this is not always easy!
